China Enters the High-HP Forage Harvester Segment
Chinese manufacturer Meidi has introduced a 650 HP self-propelled forage harvester targeting the high-capacity segment traditionally dominated by German and US brands. The company plans to export the machine to South America, North America, and Eastern Europe.

The launch marks China’s entry into the global market for high-horsepower forage harvesters, a segment where suppliers from Germany and the United States have historically held a strong position, alongside some manufacturers from Eastern Europe.
Meidi, based in Hebei Province, unveiled the new 9QS-6000S forage harvester, equipped with a 650 HP engine and designed for large-scale forage operations.
The model is part of a broader forage harvesting lineup that includes machines ranging from 330 HP to 650 HP, with multiple equipment configurations.
Key Specifications
Engine power: 650 HP
Header working width: 6 meters
Throughput capacity: Up to 140 tonnes/hour
Chop length settings: 6-8 mm / 11-14 mm / 18-22 mm
The adjustable chop-length system allows operators to adapt forage processing according to crop type and silage preparation requirements.
For corn silage applications, the machine can also be equipped with a kernel processor featuring crushing rollers.
The introduction of the 9QS-6000S reflects China’s growing ambitions in the global agricultural machinery industry, particularly in higher-value equipment categories traditionally led by Western manufacturers.
