India Strengthens Position in Global Tractor Export Market
India continues to strengthen its position in the global tractor industry, posting strong export and domestic sales growth at the start of 2026. April tractor exports rose 30% year-over-year, led by Sonalika, Mahindra, and John Deere.

India continues to expand its presence in the global tractor export business, reinforcing its role not only as the world’s largest tractor market by volume, but also as one of the leading international suppliers.
Indian manufacturers exported approximately 105,000 tractors in 2025, ranking second globally behind China, which shipped around 120,000 units.
Export Value Reaches $2.45 Billion
Measured in value, India’s tractor exports generated approximately $2.45 billion in 2025.
The country ranked fifth worldwide in tractor export revenues, behind:
Germany: $6.25 billion
United States: $4.88 billion
China: $3.60 billion
Strong Start to 2026
India maintained positive export momentum at the beginning of 2026.
In April, tractor exports totaled 9,675 units, up 30.0% year-over-year compared to 7,441 units in April 2025.
During the first four months of the year, exports reached 37,796 units, representing an 8.0% increase over the 34,975 units shipped during the same period in 2025.
Brand Performance
April export figures showed significant differences among major manufacturers.
Leading Exporters
Sonalika led the market with 2,603 exported tractors in April, up 27% year-over-year.
Mahindra ranked second with 2,007 units exported, posting a 30.5% increase compared to April 2025.
John Deere recorded the strongest growth rate, exporting 1,438 tractors during the month, up 185.3% from 504 units a year earlier.
Declining Volumes
TAFE reported a 17% decline in exports.
Escorts Group reduced overseas tractor shipments by 21%.
Domestic Market Also Expands
India’s domestic tractor market also continued its strong upward trend in April.
Manufacturers sold 104,829 tractors during the month, representing a 26.8% increase compared to 82,660 units in April 2025.
For the January-April period, domestic tractor sales reached 375,445 units, up 32.4% year-over-year from 283,505 units sold during the same period last year.
Market Outlook
The continued growth in both exports and domestic sales highlights the increasing competitiveness of India’s tractor manufacturing industry.
Strong production capacity, cost-efficient manufacturing, and growing demand in emerging agricultural markets are helping Indian brands strengthen their global footprint, particularly in the low- and mid-horsepower tractor segments.
