Ponsse Develops Large-Scale Tree Planter for Reforestation Markets

Finnish manufacturer Ponsse has developed the Bufalo Planter, a large-scale tree planting machine designed to mechanize forest regeneration operations. The machine combines soil preparation, seedling placement and watering in a single pass, targeting large reforestation areas, particularly in South America.

Ponsse said South America is expected to be the main market for the Bufalo Planter, as the machine’s benefits are likely to be more evident in areas affected by deforestation.

The Bufalo Planter was developed on the platform of a log loader already manufactured by Ponsse.

Its operating sequence includes:Soil preparation before planting

  • Opening of the planting site
  • Placement of seedlings
  • Water injection around the seedling in the furrow

The watering system is designed to support early plant development after planting.

The development reflects growing interest in mechanized solutions for large-scale forest regeneration, particularly in regions where reforestation requires higher productivity and integrated field operations.
